You have managed to book your driving test, and you are ready for the big day. To ensure that your test goes smoothly, you need to be fully prepared for your driving test. Along with being prepared, you need to make sure that you bring a few items. If you don’t, you may miss your driving test entirely.
Essential driving test items
Waiting for a driving test could have taken months, especially with the current waiting list, and the last thing you want is to have your driving test cancelled. If you have your test cancelled, you will need to wait for another test, but you will also have to pay for another test. As your test date approaches, it is essential that you are confident in your abilities and that you are also organised.
What do you need to bring to your driving test:
- Booking confirmation
- Provisional licence
- Theory certificate
Booking confirmation
When you book your driving test, the test centre will be given your booking to add to their records. We recommend that you bring your booking confirmation to minimise any potential mix-ups that the test centre may have. You would have received your booking confirmation via an email or letter with the DVLA confirming the date, time, location, and reference number. If you are nervous that they may not have your test booking, you can call your test centre the day before and confirm that your test is still going ahead.
Provisional licence
Bringing your provisional driving licence is a crucial part of your driving test as it shows that you are legally allowed to be on the road. If you did not bring your provisional licence, you would not be allowed to sit your driving test. When you bring your provisional licence, you need to ensure that it is in date and a valid licence. Your provisional licence will last for 10 years, and if you discover that it has expired, you can contact the DVLA to get a new one.
Theory certificate
If you have booked your driving test, you must have passed your theory test. You will have to make sure that you passed your theory test within two years. If it has been longer than two years, your test will be invalid. If you attempt to sit your driving test with an invalid theory test, you will not be allowed to participate in your driving test, and you will lose your money and have to rebook both your theory test and your practical driving test.
Other things to consider
It may seem obvious, but you will also need to bring a car for the driving test. If you have been taking your automatic driving lessons in London with Drive Auto London, your driving instructor will be supplying their car for your test. Your instructor will ensure their vehicle meets the legal safety requirements, and we would recommend you take your driving test in the same vehicle you have been learning in.
The final piece of advice is to bring your confidence with you. You wouldn’t be taking your driving test if your instructor didn’t believe you were ready for your test. If you find yourself getting nervous, we would recommend doing an hour’s run-through beforehand to help calm your nerves. We would also recommend that you eat a banana before your driving test as it is a good way at keeping you calm.
